Graphic Novel Project
Descender
The art style for Descender was my favorite art style among all the novels for this project, mostly because of the use of water color. The deep and intricate details created by water color made the panels, characters, and sceneries more unique and fun. I loved seeing how the water color displayed both pungent color and also areas of white space only made my using such a paint. Despite such a flowy material, the details of characters’ faces, clothing, and the technology shown are not lost, with the water color making them more prominent and refined. The violence that takes place in the novel is made to be very realistic as a result of the water color though, and I think it may impact the readability of this story for some readers who are sensitive to blood and gore, though minor it may be in the story itself.
Themes of dedication, power, justice, loyalty, love, and violence are all showcased in Descender, and some key words I thought of while reading to describe the novel are sweet, beautiful, interesting, unique, and fun. I think this story, like other novels in this project, is accessible by a wide age range of readers, despite the bloodiness of some scenes and the inclusion of some curse words. This series is still being published, and as an addicted reader, I cannot wait to finish the story and revisit my review!
