Back turned towards me, money in hand, I don’t think I’ll see her again.
Passed out on the bathroom floor, waking up in the office chair, she couldn’t remember if she could tell what was real.
“Siren tell me, what do you see?”
“The floor of the ocean, waving in blue.”
“Please, I don’t understand.”
“Take my hand and I’ll show you.”
Alone, she walks by full tables, hungry. No one sees her. Not yet.
Paw print, heartbeat. Thunder around the corner. He laid there for a lifetime. Dirt covered.
He gathered up all the strength he had, but we don’t think he’ll make it. It’s too late to make a sound.
Six cop cars, one ambulance. Man in stripes stays home, girl in handcuffs climbs into the ambulance. Another man just walks away.
The crocodile smiled. It winked, it blushed, it cooed. But he wouldn’t fall for this again.
Cotton candy sky leads to starlight wonder. Pastel beauties, please don’t float away.
They waited until the door closed, unsure of how long they had.
Stone skipping, shirt ripping. Wet skin and wet teeth. A taste of beer and metallic blood stuck on the roof of a mouth.
“What have I done my whole life to deserve you?”
“Everything.”
